The Plan de Gestion et de S\u00e9curit\u00e9 Sanitaire des Eaux (PGSSE) is a global approach to continuous improvement aimed at guaranteeing the safety of water supplies for human consumption at all times. Its fundamental aim is to move from a reactive to a proactive risk management culture.
At European level, work is currently underway to revise the Drinking Water Directive. This work includes a proposal to make SWMPs mandatory by 2029 at the latest.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This approach involves the identification and overall assessment of risks associated with the entire water production and distribution process, followed by the implementation of an appropriate preventive and curative action plan. It is designed to be iterative, with monitoring of the effectiveness of the measures taken, and revision of the plan in line with any new hazards identified or malfunctions encountered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A large amount of data needs to be collected and processed to produce indicators for steering and monitoring the effectiveness of the SSEMP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ToxMate, the micropollutant risk management tool<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

ToxMate, a biodetection station for micropollutants, is a relevant solution for the elaboration of the WSSMP. Unlike regulatory water quality monitoring based on periodic physico-chemical analyses or continuous monitoring probes, ToxMate provides a global view of the micropollutant load in real time. This is crucial, as water resources can be subject to sudden, sometimes long-lasting alterations that go undetected by traditional analysis methods, particularly in the event of precipitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Installed upstream of drinking water treatment plants, ToxMate has made it possible to detect various pollution peaks (such as drugs, phthalates and bisphenol A) that had not been identified by conventional alert stations or by regulatory analyses carried out by the Agence R\u00e9gionale de Sant\u00e9 (ARS). These variations often go unrecognized, as do recurring contamination episodes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thanks to data logging and reporting, ToxMate enables you to visualize variations in micropollutant loadings and any recurrences, which is invaluable for tracing sources of pollution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ToxMate triggers alerts to operators during pollution peaks, and the station can be coupled with an automatic sampler to carry out analyses during critical episodes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ToxMate therefore proves to be an operational and relevant tool at various stages in the elaboration of a HSSMP, from the identification of risks to the follow-up of preventive or curative measures set out in the action plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
